An individual from Ohio has been taken into custody by the FBI after reportedly issuing violent threats against a Jewish Republican congressman and advocating for the death of former President Donald Trump.
The accused, Alex Justin Miller, age 26, has been charged with interstate transmission of a threat to injure. The accusation stems from purported threats directed at Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., and his family.
“DEATH TO RANDY FINE AND DEATH TO DONALD TRUMP.”
According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), Miller allegedly addressed Rep. Fine, labeling him and his family in derogatory terms and vowing that he would attack their home.
If found guilty, Miller could serve up to five years in prison, according to the DOJ.
The threatening message included explicit language asserting intentions of violence and was reportedly received by Rep. Fine via email on the morning of primary Election Day.
He emphasized that this threat strengthens his view that federal officials require enhanced security measures.
“It was so graphic. It says, ‘I’m going to murder you. I’m going to cut your head off. I won’t stop,'” Fine said.
Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Secret Service, and Capitol Police, undertook the investigation which led to Miller’s swift apprehension – within 36 hours.
Rep. Fine has expressed gratitude to law authorities involved in the arrest, stressing that such threats towards elected officials must be taken seriously.
