Ohio State University has firmly established itself as a powerhouse in producing elite wide receiver talent for the NFL. Over the course of five consecutive drafts from 2022 to 2026, the university has impressively seen its players being selected in the first round, featuring names like Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka, and Carnell Tate.

Jeremiah Smith is poised to continue this legacy. His remarkable performance against Illinois on a recent Saturday reinforced his position as the leading receiver in the country. During Ohio State’s 42-19 triumph over the Fighting Illini, Smith showcased his skill on the field. Against Illinois, Smith pulled off an outstanding feat by catching four touchdown passes, tying the Ohio State single-game record for touchdowns. His total of 217 receiving yards in the game placed him in elite company, as he became only the second Ohio State receiver to achieve 200+ yards and four touchdown receptions in one game.

Smith’s success has now pushed him to the forefront of the Heisman Trophy race, overtaking competitors such as Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and Miami quarterback Darian Mensah. The Buckeyes’ ability to dominate their opponents has been clear, with a 101-22 cumulative score in two games following their upset by Texas.
