President Donald Trump addressed multiple assassination attempts against him, commenting that ‘only consequential presidents get shot’ during a recent interview with his former lawyer, Michael Cohen. Cohen released the second part of their interview, covering various topics including reports that Trump secretly boarded a separate military jet due to a credible Iranian threat.
Cohen, once critical of Trump, noted that this was another attempt on his life. Cohen expressed his distaste for those plots, highlighting the stark difference between disagreeing with policy and attempting to assassinate the president.
Trump responded to the threats by acknowledging the danger associated with his role. He noted, ‘If you read, only consequential presidents get shot.’ Michael Cohen humorously retorted, ‘Then do me a favor, please don’t be consequential.’ Trump agreed, suggesting he might need to become less consequential.
‘Obviously, it’s gotten much tougher over the years. But it is true, consequential. You look at the people that were shot,’ Trump remarked. ‘Non-consequential presidents lead a much nicer life.’
Cohen, once a key witness against Trump, highlighted forgiveness despite backlash from their reunion interview. Cohen cited religious scripture, expressing the theme of reconciliation and understanding between them.
