A video captured by Scott Vander Dussen of Santa Cruz Now, which circulated on social media, shows Williams’ brave rescue of a 10-year-old boy at Seabright State Beach in Santa Cruz, California. The child drifted about 15 yards offshore before Williams, aided by other beachgoers, brought him to safety. The entire rescue took slightly more than two minutes.
President Trump announced on social media his plan to welcome Williams, his family, and possibly the rescued child to the White House. “We’re going to bring this heroic young man, and his family, into the White House with, perhaps, the boy he saved, to give him a High Civilian Honor,” Trump posted. “Very brave, he deserves it!”
Who is Ryder Williams?
Williams was identified by his family in communications with the California Post. Shane Williams, Ryder’s father, expressed pride in his son’s courage. “He just wants to be a kid and work hard this summer and serve and protect his community,” said Shane. “He’s doing great. We’re so overwhelmed,” he continued, adding that he still views Ryder as his “little boy.”
