President Donald Trump attended the Presidents Cup golf tournament at Medinah Country Club on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in Medinah, Illinois. During the event, Trump commended law enforcement in the United Kingdom for their efforts in arresting five men suspected of planning an attack on a U.S. air base.
“The arrest in the U.K. was fantastic. Working with Britain, it was an amazing job,” Trump stated to reporters in Chicago, as reported by NewsNation’s Libbey Dean. The president mentioned the federal government’s role in investigating the individuals, noting they intended to cause significant harm.
“We had them under view for a long time and we got em,” Trump added.
The Metropolitan Police in London confirmed the arrest of the five men purportedly planning the attack at RAF Fairford. The base, located in Gloucestershire, is owned by the U.K. and operated by the U.S., as per The Associated Press. The base has been a site for U.S. military strikes against Iranian missile locations, under a former agreement with ex-Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Police received a report early Sunday morning about three suspicious vehicles heading towards the base, leading to the arrest, according to the AP. The nationalities of the detained men have not been disclosed.
U.K. Prime Minister Andy Burnham expressed gratitude to Gloucestershire Police, Counter Terrorism Policing, the U.K. armed forces, and other safety workers. He also acknowledged residents who evacuated their homes for precautionary checks.
“The safety and security of the public is our first priority,” Burnham stated on social platform X. He urged the public to avoid speculation as authorities determine the full facts.
