President Trump’s Grass Obsession

1 hour ago 0

President Donald Trump has a recurring interest in green lawns. He frequently discusses his expertise with grass at various events. Since returning to the White House, he has talked more about grass than on topics like the economy or military conflicts. Five weeks after his second term began, Trump shared his vision to overhaul the White House’s landscape, pointing out improvements in an interview with The Spectator.

During public appearances, Trump mentions grass often, with comments like “Grass is like humans. It has a life.” In over 45 public events or interviews, he highlights how his knowledge stems from his experience as a real estate developer and golf course owner. This has been evident in his discussions on beautifying areas of Washington.

“I know a lot about grass because I own a lot of golf courses,” Trump stated while presenting the Kennedy Center Honors. He once claimed, “I know more about grass than any human being, anywhere in the world.”

Trump’s focus on grass connects to his efforts to remodel the White House. He’s pushed to re-landscape Washington parks and his latest construction projects have seen grass removed. An example was replacing part of the White House’s Rose Garden lawn with a stone patio for better use.

High heels and muddy gardens were a common complaint from women visiting the White House dining events. Trump explained how these issues prompted the grass removal. Additionally, preparations for his 80th birthday introduced a UFC octagon on the South Lawn, leaving behind dusty dirt spots. A new helipad will also take more of the lawn space. Trump decided on a new blend of turfgrass for the refreshed landscape, with guidance from industry experts.

Scotts Miracle-Gro donated $1 million to restore the White House Lawn after these activities. Trump took an active role in selecting a custom turfgrass blend, demonstrating his personal involvement and knowledge. Bert McCarty, a Clemson University expert in turfgrass, noted Trump’s expertise and love for golf influences his grass-related decisions.

Golfers generally have a passion for well-maintained courses. Trump’s many golf properties reflect his dedication to perfecting their conditions. He once promised Washington parks would rival famous golf courses like Augusta. However, Trump measures success against his Trump’s National Golf Club in Northern Virginia. His enthusiasm suggests he aims for a pristine landscape to match or surpass his own golf courses.
