Current Residence and Moving Plans
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly relocated to a property on a friend’s estate and ceased house hunting in Britain. After living in California for six years, they moved back to Britain in August. Despite this move, they have not sold their Montecito home, and there is no specific timeline for how long their stay in Britain will last.
The couple resides at a wealthy friend’s home near the Cotswolds. Both Newsweek and other media outlets have chosen not to disclose the location to respect their privacy. According to the Daily Mail, they have transitioned to another property on the estate, halting their search for a permanent house.
Return to the U.K.
Their return to Britain raises questions about the duration and motivation behind their stay, as they previously cited reasons for leaving the country. Harry mentioned a desire to enroll their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in British schools. Nonetheless, there is no confirmation they will remain until Lilibet finishes her education in 2039.
Since their return, Harry and Meghan have lived with a friend rather than with the royals. In September, Meghan shared glimpses of their life through videos, contrasting rainy British weather with sunny California. Archie and Lilibet attend a British private school, having switched due to security concerns about traffic at their initial choice.
Despite traveling abroad for a half-term holiday, they returned in time for the new school term. Should they decide to purchase property, it would suggest long-term intentions to stay. Initially, they sought a property with a budget of £10 million (approximately $13 million).
Potential Future Plans
There is speculation about a possible return to California after Christmas. However, several factors might influence a longer stay. Harry’s Invictus Games for veterans is set to take place in Birmingham, England, in July. Staying in the U.K. would provide opportunities to promote the event through related activities. In September, Harry helped raise $2.2 million at the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards for the Games Foundation.
August 2027 will mark the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death. Harry plans to honor this milestone, potentially through a Netflix documentary about his mother. Remaining in Britain would facilitate filming and interviews with U.K.-based friends and relatives.
Reconciliation with the Royal Family
Harry aims to reconcile with the royal family. In a September 2025 interview, he emphasized that his father, King Charles III, will be his main focus for the subsequent year. Harry saw the king in July and spoke to him after moving back to Britain.
Opportunities to meet the king are rare, even for working royals like Prince William. As Harry and Meghan plan to spend Christmas in California, they may miss significant events like Sandringham, where the royals spend the holiday season. By going back to the U.S., they avoid placing the king in a challenging situation between his sons, especially after communication with William ceased.
