Red Sox Match Historic Winning Streak with 15 Consecutive Victories

The Boston Red Sox have matched a winning streak that dates back to 1946, when Ted Williams helped them to a championship. On Wednesday, they defeated the Baltimore Orioles 6-3, earning their 15th consecutive win in the opening game of a doubleheader.

Interim manager Chad Tracy acknowledged the milestone, noting the significance tied to Ted Williams and the year 1946. “It’s cool that they’ve accomplished something great,” Tracy said. The team took extra time on the field afterward to relish the victory, with The Standells’ song “Dirty Water” playing as part of the traditional celebration at Fenway Park.

Inside the clubhouse, the mood was equally festive. Tracy shared, “We were realizing the guys were going crazy in the locker room — they always do — but even more emphasis right now with what we’re going through.”

Tracy started managing the team midseason, after Boston fired Alex Cora following a 10-17 start. By July 1, the Red Sox were last in the AL East and had a record of 37-48. They’ve not lost a game since.

Jake Bennett gave Boston a solid start against Baltimore, allowing three runs over 5 2/3 innings. The Red Sox had established a 4-0 lead early in the game. Caleb Durbin had hit a crucial homer earlier in the series, and during the later innings, he began counting down outs, anticipating the win.

After securing the final out, left fielder Jarren Duran reflected on the cheering crowd alongside center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela and right fielder Wilyer Abreu. “When I get to go see them, I take a look around and enjoy that moment, that’s always fun,” Duran remarked.

The winning streak carries historical weight for many connected to the franchise, now in its 126th season. Durbin emphasized the moment’s significance. “You look back at it and think about where you’re doing it and how long this franchise has existed. It’s been incredible,” he said, eager for another chance to extend the streak.

Orioles manager Craig Albernaz commented on the achievement, acknowledging the impressive feat. “I mean, a 15-game heater is impressive,” Albernaz said. Winning one game in the major league is challenging, let alone 15 in a row.
