Rep. Stevens Advises El-Sayed to Prioritize Michigan Voters

1 hour ago 0

Democratic tensions mount in Michigan’s Senate race as a recent Fox News poll displays Republican Mike Rogers leading over Abdul El-Sayed. Congresswoman Haley Stevens from Michigan engaged with Jacqui Heinrich to advocate for the Democratic platform, tackle demographic concerns, and discuss strategies to energize essential voters ahead of the upcoming election.

During a segment on ‘The Sunday Briefing,’ Representative Haley Stevens encouraged the Democratic Senate contender Abdul El-Sayed to dissociate from Hasan Piker, a controversial figure with far-left leanings. Stevens, who lost to El-Sayed in the Democratic primary, stressed the importance of focusing on Michigan voters as El-Sayed transitions to the general election.

Stevens continued to criticize Piker while offering conditional support to El-Sayed, expressing her ongoing allegiance to the party. “Cutting ties with Hasan Piker makes sense,” she stated, while endorsing the Democratic agenda on healthcare, democracy, and support for Black-owned businesses, in contrast to Republican Mike Rogers, who will be El-Sayed’s rival in the Senate contest.

When questioned about how El-Sayed might reassure groups that supported Stevens, including Jewish, Black, and Reagan-era Democrat voters, Stevens highlighted her successes with these demographics. She referred to herself as a Zionist Democrat and asserted the party’s inclusivity. “I got close to winning the primary and remain committed to Democratic principles,” Stevens declared.

The competition to replace outgoing Democratic Senator Gary Peters, a Stevens supporter, is pivotal for the Democrats, forming part of approximately twelve key Senate races that could determine the Republican majority.

A recent Fox News poll shows El-Sayed lagging by four points behind Republican Rogers in the general election, with challenges in securing support from Black, female, and suburban voters compared to Kamala Harris’s performance in the 2024 presidential race. El-Sayed and Rogers will compete in Michigan’s Senate election on November 3.
