Russia Launches Missile and Drone Attacks on Kyiv

Russia launched a series of missile and drone attacks targeting Kyiv early Monday, resulting in at least seven casualties, according to local authorities. This assault, involving ballistic and cruise missiles, occurred just after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy cautioned about an impending large-scale attack.

Head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, reported on Telegram that 24 people sustained injuries due to this attack. He highlighted damage in multiple districts, specifically noting that a residential building in the Podilskyi district partially collapsed. Several multistory buildings in the Darnytsia district were damaged, with some residents believed to be trapped under debris.

“These are residential buildings. Places where people slept and lived their ordinary lives,” Tkachenko emphasized.

The early morning assaults sparked a wave of explosions across Kyiv, leading civilians to seek refuge in metro stations.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned about another impending Russian attack, following a previous assault that killed at least 31 people in Kyiv the previous week.

Zelenskyy is intensifying his appeals to Western allies for more support in strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses. In particular, he stressed the need for additional Patriot missiles. He noted on Telegram that delaying the replenishment of these defenses permits Russia to continue its four-year war with less resistance.
