SmackDown Turmoil Leads to New Champion
In a dramatic turn of events at ‘Friday Night SmackDown,’ Sami Zayn emerged as the new Undisputed WWE Champion. Chaos characterized the main event, with CM Punk defending his title against Zayn. This contest followed Punk’s victory over Zayn weeks earlier during ‘Monday Night Raw.’
Zayn’s past reign was notably brief. After pinning Cody Rhodes at Night of Champions, he held the title for only a few days. Yet, the desire to reclaim the championship fueled Zayn.

Ring-Side Intrigue and Interference
Zayn’s journey back to the title involved strategic ringside disorder. Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae, apparent allies, played significant roles. LeRae distracted the referee, presenting Gargano with a chance to strike Punk with the belt. However, the attempt failed miserably; Punk countered with his signature Go to Sleep move.
Kevin Owens then surfaced, aiming to strike Zayn with the belt but inadvertently hitting Punk. Punk seemed unfazed, refocusing on Zayn before receiving a strategic low blow. This left Punk vulnerable in the corner, paving the way for Zayn’s decisive Helluva Kick.
Zayn capitalized on the opportunity, pinning Punk for victory. CM Punk enthusiastically engaged with the crowd during the event at Arena Ciudad de Mexico, illustrating resilient sportsmanship.
Zayn’s Title History and Future Challenges
This marks Zayn’s second time capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship—both reigns occurring within the same year. His inaugural reign lasted a mere nine days, but hopes are high for greater longevity this time.
Title exchanges have been frequent. Since January, the championship has altered hands five times. Drew McIntyre gained it first, followed by Rhodes in March, Zayn in June, and Punk in July. With numerous premium live events looming, the championship’s future remains unpredictable.
Potential challengers abound. Punk, Owens, Rhodes, Gargano, and Randy Orton present immediate threats. McIntyre, albeit currently inactive, could soon reenter the fray.
As Sami Zayn basked in his triumph at Mexico City’s Arena Ciudad de Mexico, the competitive landscape around WWE’s title picture promises intense drama and formidable obstacles.
