San Francisco Giants Suspend Harrison Bader’s Salary After Scooter Accident

San Francisco Giants outfielder Harrison Bader experienced a setback with a scooter accident that will make him miss the rest of the baseball season and temporarily lose his paycheck. The team’s president of baseball operations, Buster Posey, announced the suspension of Bader’s salary while the team looks into the details of the incident.

Posey explained, “Over the weekend, Harrison Bader was involved in an accident that has delayed [his] prior treatment timeline for plantar fasciitis and, unfortunately, his return to the field.” The statement, provided by the team, was quoted by MLB.com.

“We are still investigating the circumstances of the accident but will be suspending payment to Harrison until he is able to resume performing services for the Club,” Posey added.

Bader agreed to a two-year contract worth $20.5 million in the offseason, but due to injury issues, he will sit out the remainder of the 2026 season. He had not played since May 29 because of plantar fasciitis in his left foot. The 2 a.m. Sunday crash, where Bader’s scooter collided with a San Francisco Fire Department truck, compounded his injury as his foot was caught under the truck’s wheel, according to SFist.

This isn’t the first time Bader has gotten into trouble with a scooter. Back in 2014, while playing for the University of Florida, he drunkenly crashed his scooter into a parked truck and faced a suspension for 19 games.

Bader, valued for his defensive skills in center field, is in his 10th MLB season. He began his career with the St. Louis Cardinals before moving to the New York Yankees. He then played for several teams including the Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies, and currently the Giants.

As a Gold Glove winner, Bader holds a .244 career batting average and has hit 93 home runs with 336 RBIs. With the Giants, his performance has suffered, as he hit only .170 with five home runs in 39 games this season.
