This collaboration highlights AI’s ability to disrupt existing political alliances. The event is organized by the Future of Life Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that humans maintain control over AI technology. In March, the institute released 33 guiding principles advocating for human control over AI and accountability from AI companies.

Concerns over AI have grown with the expansion of data centers and warnings from AI industry leaders. Executives from Anthropic and OpenAI have suggested slowing down AI development to maintain human oversight. Legislators are responding with calls for AI safeguards. House Speaker Mike Johnson has expressed support for certain regulations but argues that AI companies should lead safety efforts, cautioning against falling behind China.

Amidst these debates, the House plans to vote on the Ratepayer Protection Act. This legislation aims to prevent energy cost spikes related to data center construction. While President Trump has advocated for AI and data centers, he dismissed recent industry warnings as exaggerated, emphasizing the importance of maintaining AI leadership.

The ‘Pro-Human Assembly’ also features Hollywood stars Ashley Judd and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, along with religious leaders and child safety advocates. Organizers emphasize collaboration and trust in their vision for a pro-human future with AI.
