SEC Freshmen Quarterbacks Set to Shine in Tennessee

There is potential for both SEC teams in Tennessee to start the season with freshmen quarterbacks. Faizon Brandon, a freshman, has been chosen over sophomore George MacIntyre for Tennessee. Head Coach Josh Heupel confirmed this decision, highlighting Brandon’s hard work and growth. Brandon’s opportunity arose when Joey Aguilar could not secure another year of eligibility. Despite this hurdle, Brandon expressed determination to work hard, knowing a quarterback competition was in play.

Brandon excelled at Grimsley High School in Greensboro, N.C., with 6,374 passing yards, 79 touchdowns, 1,261 rushing yards, and 21 rushing touchdowns. He led his team to consecutive state victories, earning a spot as the nation’s No. 3 quarterback and No. 10 overall prospect, according to 247Sports.

Jared Curtis competes at Vanderbilt against senior Blaze Berlowitz to fill the shoes of 2025 Heisman runner-up Diego Pavia. Curtis withdrew his Georgia commitment to join Vanderbilt, making him the highest-ranked recruit they have signed. At Nashville Christian Academy, Curtis threw for over 9,500 yards and rushed for more than 2,100 yards, earning a state title and Tennessee’s Gatorade player of the year.

Vanderbilt’s coach Clark Lea praised Curtis’ raw abilities but acknowledged the challenges of SEC training camp. Despite inconsistencies, Curtis has shown explosive potential.
