The Democratic candidate for Ohio governor, Amy Acton, faced a security threat during a campaign event at the Canfield Fair. Authorities report that Patrick Havas, a 38-year-old registered Republican, charged through the crowd toward Acton. The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed that Havas possessed a Taser and two pistols at the time of the incident.

Witnesses observed Havas knocking over multiple audience members as he approached Acton. He is currently detained at the Mahoning County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct and two counts of assault.

Sheriff’s Office Statement

The Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office stated that Havas entered the Democratic Party tent using a cell phone to record and pushed his way through the crowd. Havas, a licensed nurse from Canfield, was recorded last voting in 2024.

Security personnel, including Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, intervened and arrested Havas. Sheriff Jerry Greene detailed that Havas collided with two elderly individuals on mobility scooters, causing them to fall.

Investigation Continues

Although Havas had two handguns and brass knuckles, authorities noted he did not brandish or remove the weapons from their holsters. The sheriff’s office plans to continue investigating and will consult the County Prosecutor on further charges. Additionally, the state patrol will conduct a threat assessment.

Acton’s campaign communications director, Addie Bullock, emphasized that Dr. Acton and her team express gratitude for the decisive actions of law enforcement and wish for the recovery of those injured. Bullock reiterated that Acton stands firm against discord and hostility.
