Sen. Durbin Offers to Meet with Angel Mom During Confirmation Hearing

Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., expressed a willingness to meet with Angel Mom Jennifer Bos following her testimony at the confirmation hearing of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. Bos vocalized concerns about immigration reform during the confirmation proceedings.

“Miss Bos, anxious to meet with you,” Durbin remarked, offering to convene promptly. Bos, whose daughter was found deceased in a bleach-filled container with an illegal immigrant charged in relation to the case, spoke before the committee to support Blanche’s nomination. Her testimony underscored the Trump administration’s focus on violent crime and immigration enforcement.

Angel Families, like the Bos family, advocate for stricter immigration laws. Bos and other Angel Parents have pushed lawmakers for greater attention to such reforms, often feeling overlooked.

Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., acknowledged Bos’s struggles in contacting lawmakers, stating, “Well, I hope—and I’m sure that—I hope I heard the ranking member yesterday talked about the need for the attorney general to meet with victims, which I support.” Brit expressed hope for further meetings.

Bos pointed out that legislative efforts on immigration often go unaddressed by Democratic officials. She highlighted the difficulty of discussing legislation, particularly with those opposed to stricter measures.

At the hearing’s close, Durbin reiterated his willingness to meet with Bos. He stated, “I didn’t know it was a hardship for you to make this journey here, testify, from Illinois,” expressing his desire to meet immediately.

Megan Bos, found deceased and partially decomposed in April 2025, prompted an emotional account from her mother. The Lake County Coroner’s Office listed Megan’s cause of death as “undetermined.” Jose Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, an illegal immigrant charged in relation to her death, was arrested by ICE after being released under Illinois law.

Bos praised Blanche, highlighting his intervention in pursuing justice. She remarked, “I’m asking the committee not to wait until another mother is sitting where I am.” Bos urged confirmation of Blanche, portraying him as a leader focused on law enforcement and victim support.

Mendoza-Gonzalez remains in federal custody, facing immigration and state charges connected to Bos’s death.
