The Netherlands hosts a large Moroccan community. Fans of Morocco were eager to celebrate, but some gatherings turned disorderly. Police in The Hague reported that fireworks were set off in the Schilderswijk district. Officers faced assaults with fireworks and stones, prompting riot squads to intervene. Using water cannons, they dispersed the crowd and made several arrests for violent conduct.
Police detained individuals involved in causing unrest, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining order.
Meanwhile, in Casablanca, the atmosphere was jubilant as locals celebrated Morocco’s advancement to the World Cup Round of 16. Ismael Saibari’s successful penalty kick led to a massive street celebration, with flares and fireworks lighting up the night sky. Fans expressed their enthusiasm well into the early hours, despite the impending workday.
Following Morocco’s success, fans gathered on Casablanca’s main boulevard. They danced, waved Moroccan flags, and joyfully proclaimed their readiness to face Canada in the next round, chanting, “Canada, we’re coming for you.”
Morocco aims to continue their impressive World Cup journey, building on their previous achievements. Supporters are hopeful for another record-breaking performance, reminiscent of Morocco’s historic semifinal appearance four years prior.
