Analysis of Progressive Policies in Wisconsin’s Democratic Primary

Former Governor Scott Walker and host Harris Faulkner explored the impact of Francesca Hong’s progressive policies in the Democratic primary in Wisconsin. A known Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) contender, Hong is under the spotlight for her bold social media posts which have drawn criticism.

Inflammatory Remarks Stir Controversy

Francesca Hong, a candidate for Wisconsin governor, has had her candidacy scrutinized due to past social media comments. One of her posts, dated January 20, 2022, expressed a desire to transform America from “an abundance of suffering” into “a wealth of opportunity.” She emphasized providing equal rights to Black and Brown individuals and electing non-racist leaders.

Past Social Media Comments Continue to Resurface

“Cancel Thanksgiving. Should have done this in 1621,” Hong wrote, addressing colonialism’s impact on indigenous communities.

Hong’s previous posts have included controversial statements, such as ‘Cancel Thanksgiving,’ drawing attention to her critical stance on America’s historical events. Her candidacy highlights a trend of socialist candidates challenging establishment Democrats.

Hong’s Perspective on White Supremacy and Abolishing Police

In her 2019 post, Hong shared discomfort in predominantly White settings, reflecting her anxiety. Her stance on abolishing the police gained attention when she criticized the decision not to press charges in the Jacob Blake shooting, labeling police as upholding White supremacy.

Responding to Criticism and Clarifying Her Goals

Hong’s spokesperson stated her views on police and prison abolition remain aspirational goals akin to eradicating disease. She has no immediate plans to defund police due to gubernatorial limits. When asked about her posts, Hong likened her comments to past ambitions of being a sports journalist.

“You have some hot takes, and sometimes bad takes on Twitter,” Hong remarked about her approach.

Facing scrutiny, Hong remains focused on issues central to potential voters.

A Lack of Endorsement from Prominent Figures

Despite speculation, Hong did not receive an endorsement from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez regarding her candidacy. She continues her campaign focusing on voter concerns without further comment on her past remarks.
