The recent storm on Tuesday caused significant disruptions to public transportation across Northwest Indiana. The Gary Public Transportation Corp. announced a complete suspension of its services for Wednesday, including the Access219 paratransit service.
The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District offered a reduced service for the South Shore Line on Wednesday. Passengers were advised to anticipate substantial delays and increased travel times. Crews are actively working to address weather-related damages and restore power along the train routes. Further cancellations remain a possibility.
There was limited shuttle service available between Hammond Gateway and Munster/Dyer on the Monon Corridor. According to the railroad, this adjusted plan doesn’t reflect the normal operations of the South Shore Line.
“This is a limited operating plan and does not represent normal South Shore Line service,” stated a railroad spokesperson.
