A tragic accident claimed the life of Hassan Kariem, 42, at Six Flags Over Georgia. Kariem fell from the Goliath roller coaster and died on Monday. His sister, Andrea Clark, expressed disbelief that her brother, who had survived cancer and a car fire, could lose his life in such a manner.
Kariem, identified by Cobb County police, had been in remission from cancer since 2015 and had escaped a car fire just weeks prior. Clark described him as ‘amazing’ and her ‘hero,’ highlighting his dedication to his family and his role in raising his fiancée’s daughter.
Clark condemned the sharing of images depicting Kariem’s final moments, urging respect and privacy. ‘It’s tragic, and I feel like we’ve gone too far as a society,’ she stated.
Witnesses reported a horrific scene, with one parkgoer noting that Kariem appeared in a souvenir photo before he fell. The Goliath roller coaster, with speeds up to 70 mph and multiple large drops, had been operating when the incident occurred.
Atlanta Public Schools, where Kariem worked as an IT manager, extended condolences to his family. Six Flags is cooperating with authorities and has closed similar rides at other locations as a precaution.
The cause of Kariem’s fall remains under investigation.
