Successful Electronics Recycling Event Held in Aurora

Darla Hale, a resident of Aurora, took advantage of a local electronics recycling event to dispose of her old computer. The event, hosted by Aurora’s Property Standards Division, provided a convenient and free solution for residents to recycle their electronics.

The collection took place at the Route 59 Metra station, located on the city’s far East Side. After participating, Hale shared her appreciation: “This is the first time I’ve used this. It’s a free service, local, and really helpful. I’ll return next time if I have more items to recycle.”

During the four-hour event, workers assisted residents in unloading a variety of items, including televisions, computers, printers, and cables. Household items such as electric toothbrushes and holiday lights were also accepted.

Aurora’s Director of Property Standards, Josh Alcaraz, highlighted the event’s popularity and environmental benefits. “Providing this service supports our community and promotes environmental sustainability,” he stated.

Jon Zaghloul, Aurora’s communications director, noted the event regularly attracts over 2,000 vehicles. “We have an event app for sign-ups, and we’re reaching similar numbers this year,” he said. According to Zaghloul, the wide variety of accepted electronics accounts for the event’s success.

Collection services were managed by A Team Recyclers from Shorewood. James Larkin, their supervisor, remarked on the event’s efficiency. Vehicles arrived in scheduled blocks, ensuring a steady pace. “We expect to collect about 100,000 to 120,000 pounds of material,” he explained. Items were then taken back to their facility for sorting and processing.

Bob Vanslobig, an Aurora resident, participated by recycling old cords and electronics. “I’m retired and cleaning house. This event is perfect for responsibly recycling items,” he commented.

James Clemons brought in two old televisions he had stored for years. “I’m glad to finally have a place to recycle them,” he said.

Gary Pennington also found the event beneficial, saying, “This is a great way to de-junk the house.”

The successful recycling event provided an effective way for Aurora residents to dispose of unused electronics. The service aims to continue supporting community members and promoting sustainable practices in the future.
