A contentious call by the first base umpire at the USSSA Wood Grill Buffet/Everett Classic in Benton, Arkansas, ignited the situation. The dispute involved the umpire and a coach, making for a dramatic scene witnessed by the players.

Incident Details

The event unfolded during the top of the fourth inning as the Arkansas Pride 12 (13U) team held a 7-2 lead over Tulsa Elite NEA (14U). “ZERO BS. JUST DAKICH. TAKE THE DON’T @ ME PODCAST ON THE ROAD. DOWNLOAD NOW!”

The altercation intensified as words were exchanged and shoves ensued. Debates emerged on whether the umpire missed the call or if the coach’s reaction was justified.

Reactions and Safety Measures

The Tulsa Elite coaching staff issued a statement via Facebook, emphasizing the importance of maintaining order. They reported that their team remained in the dugout during the incident, with one parent attempting to help de-escalate the situation. The statement underscored the unfortunate nature of such behavior in youth sports.

According to national surveys, sportsmanship on fields across the United States is deteriorating. In 2023, 69% of surveyed officials noted worsening sportsmanship, with 1 in 8 reporting assaults during or after games.

Tulsa Elite’s coach prioritized safety and chose to forfeit the game. Concerns over player well-being prompted the decision to leave the environment.

USSSA Response Awaited

Efforts to contact the USSSA Arkansas state director for a statement have yet to receive a response. This incident adds to the ongoing conversation about sportsmanship and safety in youth sports. Joe Kinsey, Senior Director of Content at OutKick, reported on these events.
