The Rise of Wearable Health Devices: Tracking and Insights

1 day ago 0

Wearable devices such as smartwatches and rings are gaining popularity as effective wellness tools. These devices track numerous health metrics, including sleep, steps, heart rate, temperature, and stress levels.

Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade recently tested the Oura ring to monitor his health data throughout a busy day. He shared his findings live on “Fox & Friends,” noting he only managed four hours of sleep with some REM sleep accounting for 14% and over 20% in deep sleep. He remarked on feeling relatively fresh and rejuvenated despite the limited rest.

Kilmeade highlighted, “You see the stress level spike just a little bit … as I make my way over to radio, my activity is going to pick up.”

During the day, his wearable tracked physiological responses in diverse environments, from stress during live broadcasts to exercise-induced exertion. Such devices are now integral to cardiology, offering early detection of conditions like atrial fibrillation.

Dr. Craig Basman, a cardiologist from New Jersey, joined Kilmeade on the program to analyze the metrics and discuss the implications of wearable technology in clinical care. Basman noted Kilmeade’s insufficient sleep and emphasized the importance of utilizing data to improve lifestyle choices. Wearables can transform preventative care, aid in screenings, and help detect cardiovascular issues.

Basman pointed out the reliability of the technology, citing “robust data” supporting the accuracy of metrics such as resting heart rate and heart rate variability. He stated that devices could identify serious conditions like atrial fibrillation, often undetectable during regular exams.

For younger individuals, wearable devices serve as essential primary prevention tools, helping track arterial plaque development from early ages. For older adults, they act as valuable screening tools for existing cardiac issues.

Users concerned about health data from wearables should consult medical professionals. Wearable health technology offers vast potential, but it’s crucial to leverage the insights for meaningful lifestyle changes.
