The View Co-Hosts Discuss Maine Senate Vetting Scandal

Alyssa Farah Griffin, co-host on The View, criticized the Democratic Party for poorly vetting Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner amid scandals, including sexual abuse allegations. Co-host Sunny Hostin insisted Platner should leave the race to aid Democrats in flipping the Senate.

Griffin emphasized the Democrats’ failure to properly recruit against Susan Collins over six years, highlighting Maine as a crucial Senate seat. She questioned how the Democrats missed vetting Platner given the importance of his potential contribution to their Senate majority.

“I’m struck by how Dems botched this,” Griffin remarked. “They had six years to recruit against Susan Collins, but failed to vet candidates thoroughly.”

Griffin suggested that political consultants were aware of issues surrounding Platner, with whispers circulating about his behavior towards women, yet warnings went unheeded.

Whoopi Goldberg pointed out that people were aware of Platner’s situation, and despite this, they often choose flawed candidates. Goldberg noted, “given the current state of affairs, many voters disregarded these concerns.”

The hosts concluded that character vetting has become neglected, with Hostin labeling Platner as racist and homophobic, yet admitting support due to broader political concerns. Hostin criticized Republicans for claiming moral superiority despite low standards.

She reiterated, “If I lived in Maine, I’d reluctantly vote for Platner due to the crisis facing the country.” However, she and other hosts agreed Platner should withdraw from the race.
