Travelers should pay careful attention to what they include in carry-on luggage for upcoming flights. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently reminded passengers that peanut butter falls under its liquids rule.
TSA’s Reminder on Peanut Butter
The TSA used social media platform X to inform travelers that peanut butter is categorized as a liquid for airport security purposes. They posted a message saying, “Peanut butter is a liquid… we said what we said… this time with receipts,” accompanied by a Google AI Overview screenshot explaining why peanut butter is considered a liquid.

Under TSA guidelines, liquids, gels, and aerosols carried on must be in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces and fit into a quart-sized bag.
TSA Rules and Packing Tips
Travel industry expert Gary Leff from Texas and author of “View From the Wing” clarified that peanut butter’s ability to conform to its container shape qualifies it as a liquid under TSA regulations. However, this doesn’t prevent travelers from bringing food through security checkpoints entirely.
Leff suggested travelers either eat before arriving at the airport or pack allowed foods as airport dining can be costly and may offer limited choices.

In a previous discussion in July, the TSA suggested bringing hammocks to airports with long layovers. This idea prompted mixed reactions among travelers. Some considered hammocks disruptive, while others saw them as beneficial for comfort during extended waits.
