The TSA used social media platform X to inform travelers that peanut butter is categorized as a liquid for airport security purposes. Under TSA guidelines, liquids, gels, and aerosols carried on must be in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces and fit into a quart-sized bag.

Travel industry expert Gary Leff from Texas and author of “View From the Wing” clarified that peanut butter’s ability to conform to its container shape qualifies it as a liquid under TSA regulations. However, this doesn’t prevent travelers from bringing food through security checkpoints entirely.

Leff suggested travelers either eat before arriving at the airport or pack allowed foods as airport dining can be costly and may offer limited choices.

In a previous discussion in July, the TSA suggested bringing hammocks to airports with long layovers. This idea prompted mixed reactions among travelers. Some considered hammocks disruptive, while others saw them as beneficial for comfort during extended waits.
