Troy Aikman, former Dallas Cowboys star and current “Monday Night Football” broadcaster, remains skeptical despite the team’s 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. During the game at Lincoln Financial Field, Aikman was questioned about whether this win altered his view of the Cowboys.
Aikman commented, “Eh, not really, and I don’t mean that as a negative. This is a beat-up Philadelphia team. To come in here and win tonight, I mean, let’s not get carried away.”
Philadelphia faced significant challenges entering the game with a four-game losing streak. Backup quarterback Tanner McKee replaced Jalen Hurts, who was sidelined due to blood clots. The team also coped with the absence of key players, including Cam Jurgens, traded away, and Lane Johnson, who retired unexpectedly. Saquon Barkley was battling injuries and left the game early.
Aikman noted the Cowboys’ victory was predictable under these circumstances. “They did what you would expect them to do,” he added, acknowledging he expected the Eagles to provide more resistance defensively. Aikman stressed that the Cowboys’ future success hinges on their defensive progression.
The Cowboys’ defense shows improvement yet remains inconsistent, allowing an average of 25.7 points per game, ranking 23rd in the NFL. Conversely, their offense ranks fifth, scoring around 27 points per game.
This win moved the Cowboys to a 3-4 record, trailing the New York Giants in the NFC East. The upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals provides another chance for Dallas to shift Aikman’s opinion.
