During an unexpected radio interview on Thursday, former President Donald Trump and his erstwhile personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, engaged in a candid discussion. Cohen, once a fierce adversary of Trump, described how he felt turned into a tool by the mainstream media, reflecting on their past conflicts before their recent reconciliation.
The conversation marked the first public interaction between Trump and Cohen in almost ten years. In this first segment of a two-part interview on Cohen’s radio show, Cohen recollected his memorable 2016 encounter with CNN’s Brianna Keilar. During that interview, Cohen’s reaction to a question regarding Trump’s poll standings sparked viral fame.
“Do you remember, sir, when I went on CNN with Brianna Keilar, and she told me that you were underwater in the polls, and I responded with those famous two words, ‘says who,’ which became a worldwide meme,” Cohen said.
Trump responded to Cohen’s recollection, acknowledging the way media outlets had targeted both of them.
“And then they weaponized you like nobody’s ever been weaponized, like few have been,” Trump replied.
Cohen reminisced about a supportive message he received from Trump the morning after the CNN interview.
“F— them. You’re stronger than them. We’ve got this,” Trump reportedly told Cohen.
Throughout the interview, the pair criticized various media outlets, particularly focusing on media polls. Trump singled out The New York Times, alleging bias and a lack of credibility in their reporting.
“The polls are crooked. So the reporters that, you know, are crooked, many of them. You have some great ones too. But for the most part … when you read The New York Times, it’s so dishonest,” Trump stated.
Trump did concede that there are reputable journalists in the media landscape, though he avoided naming specific individuals to prevent excluding others.
Fox News Digital had sought comments from CNN, MS NOW, and The New York Times but did not receive a timely response. The broadcast with Trump and Cohen was scheduled to air in two segments, with the second part slated for Cohen’s Sunday show, “When You Know You Know.” This reunion also followed a Substack post by Cohen, highlighting their first public dialogue in nearly a decade.
