President Trump plans to deliver a speech at the Pentagon to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. He will not visit Ground Zero in New York City. When questioned on this choice, Trump stated, “Because I’m going to the Pentagon.”

A White House official informed The Hill’s partner, NewsNation, that Vice President Vance will still travel to New York City, ensuring that all three memorial sites will have administration representatives present. The New York Times reported Trump had considered speaking at Ground Zero, but other factors influenced his decision to stay at the Pentagon, including a scheduled trip to his golf course in Ireland.

Since 2012, politicians have not been allowed to make speeches at Ground Zero. White House spokesperson Anna Kelly noted Trump’s deep connection to New York, saying, “As a proud New Yorker, President Trump has spoken about his experiences on September 11, 2001.” She added that he would honor those killed, their families, and the courageous first responders.

This marks the second consecutive year Trump will observe the anniversary at the Defense Department. Both Trump and Vance joined the Ground Zero ceremony in 2024 with then-President Biden and Vice President Harris.
