On Friday, President Donald Trump introduced the new Air Force One jet gifted by the Qatari government. He announced plans for it to feature in a ceremonial flyover in Washington on July 4, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. Trump presented the aircraft at Joint Base Andrews, adjacent to Washington, where he exited the jet and descended the steps.
The jet boasts a red, white, and dark-blue color scheme, marking a change from the previous lighter blue design. Trump plans to use this aircraft during events commemorating the nation’s significant anniversary. He commented, “Nobody tops this one, and that’s the way we have to have it for our country. Nobody even comes close.”
Trump praised the plane, describing it as “the largest and the greatest in every aspect.” He referred to it as a “flying White House at a level of luxury no one has ever seen before.” He said his return trip from the G7 summit in France this week would be the last occasion he uses the existing fleet.
The aircraft is valued at approximately $400 million, although additional costs incurred by the U.S. government for its preparations have likely increased the total substantially. The Qatari government’s involvement has received bipartisan criticism, with concerns about security and ethics being raised. Experts estimate the plane’s overhaul, including security enhancements, might exceed $1 billion.
