Trump’s Involvement in FIFA World Cup

A White House official has confirmed that President Donald Trump will present the FIFA World Cup trophy to the winner of the match between Spain and Argentina on Sunday. FIFA President Gianni Infantino previously stated on “Fox & Friends” that he and Trump would present the trophy to the winning team’s captain at the New York/New Jersey Stadium.

Infantino also mentioned that Trump would attend the game, with White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt describing Trump’s presence as “a fitting conclusion to a tournament that showcased America’s ability to host the world on the grandest stage.” Last summer, Trump was present at the FIFA Club World Cup trophy presentation, where Chelsea defeated Paris Saint-Germain.

During the World Cup, Trump played a role in resolving a major controversy by requesting a review of Folarin Balogun’s red card, which led to Balogun’s suspension being lifted, allowing him to play in Team USA’s Round of 16 match. Infantino and Trump were together to present the trophy to Chelsea FC after their win against Paris Saint-Germain at MetLife Stadium on July 13, 2025.

Although Trump has not yet attended a World Cup match, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was present at the U.S. Men’s National Team’s opener against Paraguay, which resulted in a 4-1 victory on June 12.

Trump was awarded the first FIFA Peace Prize at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., during the World Cup final draw ceremony in December. This award was presented by FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the event.

Recently, Trump attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, and the White House hosted UFC Freedom 250 last month. Next month, an IndyCar race will be held in Washington, D.C.
