Trump’s Search for New White House Press Secretary

President Donald Trump has begun the search to find a successor for White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, as she prepares to leave the administration. Leavitt plans to appear on “Fox & Friends” for her final interview in this role before transitioning to MAGA Inc., a group aligned with Trump.

The decision on who will serve as the new press secretary is crucial for Trump. This person will be responsible for shaping the public narrative during the remainder of his presidency. As the search continues, current officials will temporarily fill the briefing role similar to when Leavitt went on maternity leave earlier this year.

During Leavitt’s leave, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President JD Vance, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz took over press briefings. The White House has planned for guest hosts to continue this rotation.

Former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino explained that as a presidency progresses, especially after midterms, attention shifts towards the next election. This brings new challenges for the press secretary who must balance governing with inevitable political implications.

Leavitt has been praised for her effectiveness both in public and behind the scenes. Trump announced that she will leave her role and become an outside advisor.

Sean Spicer, Trump’s former press secretary, commented that the next press secretary must have a strong relationship with the president. He suspects the individual will be from Trump’s current inner circle.

Several names have been mentioned as potential candidates. Alina Habba, who was previously seen as a frontrunner, has distanced herself from becoming the next press secretary. Currently, conservative commentator Scott Jennings and Leavitt’s deputy Anna Kelly are leading the predictions on Kalshi.

Anna Kelly gained visibility during Leavitt’s maternity leave by representing the administration in media engagements. Scott Jennings, known for his book and political commentary, has also been considered for the role.

Speculation includes Trump’s senior advisor Stephen Miller and his wife Katie Miller, although there is no confirmation on their willingness to fill the vacancy.

Other potential candidates are Steven Cheung, the White House communication director, and figures such as Matthew Boyle from Breitbart and Taylor Budowich, former deputy chief of staff.

Leavitt served as press secretary for 19 months, making her Trump’s second-longest-serving press secretary, after Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Following Sanders, Stephanie Grisham held the position for nine months but did not conduct any press briefings, and was succeeded by Kayleigh McEnany.
