Two Chicago Police Officers Shot in South Shore Neighborhood

Two Chicago police officers were shot on Friday evening in the South Shore area, as reported by authorities. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. near East 79th Street and South Chappel Avenue.

The officers were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. According to Larry Merritt, spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department, a civilian was also transported to the hospital. Their medical conditions were not made public immediately.

The specific details surrounding the shooting remain unclear. However, a police source familiar with the investigation mentioned that shots were fired following a traffic stop. One officer was struck in the vest, while the other suffered an injury to the arm.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is conducting an investigation into the officer-involved shooting near 2000 East 79th Street.
