Three Virginia Democrats gathered in Henrico County on Monday, centering their campaign efforts on the war in Iran, which has impacted oil markets and extended beyond economic concerns. Former Representative Elaine Luria, former Representative Tom Perriello, and Henrico County Prosecutor Shannon Taylor joined forces at the rally, highlighting the war as a key election issue.
Elaine Luria, challenging Rep. Jen Kiggans in Virginia’s 2nd District, emphasized the toll of the conflict, particularly on sailors. She accused the current administration of misleading the public about casualty numbers, which deeply affects this military-centric state.
Shannon Taylor, competing against Rep. Rob Wittman in the 1st District, remarked on her opponent’s support for the war as detrimental, while Tom Perriello, contesting Rep. John McGuire in the 5th District, recalled his past tenure and his goal to resume his seat to help conclude the conflict.
Former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg, also present, encouraged Virginia Democrats to aim for House control, requiring a net gain of four seats. Addressing over 200 supporters, Buttigieg highlighted Virginia’s significance in the national landscape and rallied the crowd with the message that their efforts could determine the House’s future leadership.
