U.S. Ambassador Confronts Iran at U.N. Security Council

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, addressed the U.N. Security Council, criticizing Iran following accusations from its representative that the Council was spreading misinformation about recent attacks in the Gulf region. Waltz emphasized the importance of not silencing the Council.

During the meeting, Waltz strongly responded to Iranian diplomat Amir Saeid Iravani, saying, “Let me remind you where you are. This is the United States of America. This is the United Nations Security Council. You will not silence this body.” His remarks followed emergency discussions after recent drone and missile attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait, which occurred after U.S. airstrikes on Iran.

Accusations and Responses

Iravani criticized the meeting and accused the U.S., Bahrain, and other members of presenting false information. He claimed the U.S. used lies to justify unlawful aggression. Iravani also dismissed accusations from Western members and defended Iran’s actions as a response to aggression against them.

Waltz addressed these claims by displaying images he stated showed the aftermath of Iranian attacks, including damage to homes, a tourist hotel, and a first responder facility in Bahrain.

Bahrain’s Foreign Minister, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, reported numerous attacks on civilian facilities, critical infrastructure, and residential areas since February 28. These attacks included ballistic missiles and armed drones, leading to civilian casualties and injuries, contradicting Iran’s claims of targeting only military sites.

Tensions Between Washington and Tehran

Washington and Tehran have repeatedly accused each other of violating a ceasefire agreement. President Donald Trump announced U.S. military actions in response to Iranian violations of this deal, targeting missile and drone storage sites and radar locations.

The exchange of hostilities began with an Iranian drone striking a merchant vessel off Oman, prompting U.S. military retaliation. Trump warned of potential future escalation, stating that if necessary, the U.S. might take military action to resolve the conflict.
