Ukrainian forces launched an extensive drone attack targeting Moscow early Tuesday, as announced by Russian officials. From Monday evening to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, a total of 620 drones were reportedly on course towards the Moscow region, detailed by the city’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin.
Sobyanin confirmed that approximately 180 of these drones, also referred to as uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), were neutralized around Moscow. Additionally, Moscow’s regional governor, Andrey Vorobyov, stated that more than 150 drones were taken down in the vicinity of the capital.
This bombardment marked “the largest in the past two years,” highlighted by Russia’s Tass state news agency. Ukraine has consistently aimed to penetrate Moscow’s defenses with long-range drone assaults, spotlighting the ongoing impact of over four years of intense conflict on the Russian populace.
A spokesperson for Wildberries, a prominent Russian online retailer comparable to Amazon, revealed that the drone attack inflicted “minor damage” on a logistics facility in the Moscow area, with debris damaging a section of the building’s wall.
According to Russia’s defense ministry, air defense systems intercepted a total of 791 drones overnight. These interceptions occurred across 15 Russian regions, including the annexed Crimean peninsula as well as the Azov and Black Seas. The extensive Ukrainian offensive on Russian territory was one of the most significant incidents reported this year, as documented by Tass.
