USMNT Manager Pochettino Embraces American Culture During World Cup

United States men’s national team (USMNT) manager Mauricio Pochettino, known for his pride in his Argentine roots, is actively engaging with American culture during the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup. Though he once described himself as ‘200% Argentine,’ his recent actions have shown his appreciation for American traditions.

One of the most talked-about moments occurred when Pochettino passionately sang John Denver’s ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ following the USMNT’s victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday, July 1, in the Round of 32.

The team continues to immerse themselves in local culture with their next adventure in Major League Baseball. The Seattle Mariners announced that Pochettino, along with the USMNT, will perform the ceremonial first pitch for their game against the Toronto Blue Jays at T-Mobile Park in Seattle on Friday, July 3.

During a training session on Thursday, FOX Sports’ Doug McIntyre captured a heartwarming video of goalkeeper Matt Turner teaching Pochettino how to throw a baseball. The USMNT’s official Instagram account also shared videos of team members Christian Pulisic, Chris Richards, and Weston McKennie practicing their pitching skills.

The USMNT is set to face Belgium in the Round of 16 at Lumen Field in Seattle on Monday, July 6, at 8 p.m. EST. In their last World Cup encounter, Belgium defeated the USMNT 2-1 in the Round of 16 in 2014. More recently, Belgium bested the USMNT 5-2 in an international friendly match in late March.

Despite the USMNT’s previous challenges at the World Cup, Pochettino remains optimistic about their chances, expressing confidence after defeating Bosnia, saying, ‘Why not us?’

If the USMNT triumphs over Belgium, it will be the first time they reach the World Cup quarterfinals since 2002 when they were defeated by Germany.
