Vehicle Attack at Berlin Pride Event: One Dead and Several Injured

The incident involved a vehicle driving into a crowd during a Pride event in Berlin, Germany, resulting in at least one fatality and several injuries.

According to Berlin police, the suspect linked to the attack is known to authorities and has connections to “Islamist circles.” A manhunt for the suspect has been initiated. Reports indicate that a driver in a white vehicle struck multiple people before 10:00 p.m. local time.

Berlin police have confirmed that at least 17 individuals are injured, with several sustaining life-threatening injuries. The attack took place in Tiergarten Park, one of Berlin’s largest parks, during an LGBTQ+ celebration.

Berlin’s governing mayor, Kai Wegner, described the event as an “attack on our free and cosmopolitan society.” In a social media statement, Wegner emphasized, “Berlin is the city of freedom, and our freedom has been horrifically attacked today. My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and friends. I have confidence in the police and security authorities, who will investigate with the utmost urgency.”

Earlier in the day, thousands participated in the Christopher Street Day Parade to support LGBTQ+ rights. The annual event, one of Europe’s largest Pride parades, was called off following the attack.
