A former Virginia soccer coach, Shannon Rebekeh Meyyar, 47, is accused of sexually exploiting a teenage boy on her team. The alleged relationship, lasting several months, reportedly started when the boy was 17 years old, according to police and court documents.
Meyyar faces four counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor. The police investigation revealed an alleged secret affair with the student, beginning in February 2019. At the time, Meyyar worked as a soccer coach at Williamsburg Christian Academy in Virginia.
Court records show the victim reported that Meyyar contacted him via social media. Alleged sexual encounters occurred in Meyyar’s home and her car at a dead-end road in James City County, as reported by WAVE.com.
The allegations surfaced nearly seven years later, following a tip received by the police. “The tip came in on Tuesday, and immediately afterwards, our detectives launched an investigation,” stated Police public information spokeswoman Patty Schlosser. Their findings led to Meyyar’s arrest on Thursday.
Williamsburg Christian Academy confirmed Meyyar’s role as an independently contracted co-ed soccer coach during the 2019 season, and intermittently in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. The school has committed to fully cooperating with the authorities on this matter.
Meyyar reportedly acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations but did not deny them during a police interview, according to WAVY. She is currently held without bond at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
