On Monday’s episode of “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg defended President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, supporting their attendance at Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden. Goldberg emphasized that both men deserve to be there because they are longtime New York Knicks fans.
Goldberg stated, “I think anybody who’s a Knicks fan should be there. You earned the right as a Knicks fan. I don’t have to like you.” Her comments followed clips of fans expressing objections against Trump and Mamdani attending the game. Goldberg responded, “Trump and Mayor Mamdani are Knicks fans and have been. They’re New Yorkers.”
As the Knicks returned home with a 2-0 lead in the Finals, Goldberg energetically celebrated, encouraging the team to win. The show included a clip of Trump confirming his invitation from Knicks owner James Dolan. Trump said, “I’ve been a Knicks fan for a long time and also a Jim Dolan fan. He’s a nice guy. The answer is, yes, he’s invited me, and I’m going.”
President Donald Trump mentioned that Knicks owner James Dolan has invited him to Madison Square Garden.
While some fans disapproved of their presence, fearing trouble, Goldberg dismissed the idea that the two figures could harm the Knicks’ prospects. She stated, “I don’t think anything can jinx anything. I think these guys are on a mission.” Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin suggested that Trump might be blamed if the Knicks lost, but Goldberg emphasized sending positive energy towards the team.
The Knicks lead the San Antonio Spurs 2-0 going into Game 3. Trump’s attendance as Dolan’s guest necessitated heightened security measures, including the cancellation of a planned watch party outside Madison Square Garden. Mayor Mamdani, expected to attend separately, stated he would not sit with Trump.
