WNBA Game Preview: Los Angeles Sparks vs. Atlanta Dream

3 weeks ago 0

Betting on WNBA games may not be everyone’s focus, but for those who follow the league closely, the matches offer intriguing opportunities. The Los Angeles Sparks face the Atlanta Dream in a game that promises to be competitive. Despite the challenge, both teams have unique strengths that could tip the balance.

Sparks’ Mid-Season Struggles

The Sparks maintain an overall 10-11 record and are 5-4 on the road this season. However, their performance seems affected by key player absences. Star point guard Kelsey Plum has participated in only 12 games this season and remains out for this match. Additionally, Cameron Brink, who has played 14 games, is also unavailable.

Despite these challenges, other players have stepped up. Nneka Ogwumike averages 16.9 points per game and is pivotal in the offense. Dearica Hamby contributes nearly 15 points per game as well. While the absence shifts their strategy from guard-oriented to a more forward-focused approach, the team continues to demonstrate resilience.

Changes in the Dream’s Lineup

The Atlanta Dream have seen some significant transformations over the past seasons. In 2021, they finished 15-25, but improved to 30-14 last year. The trio of Britney Griner, Rhyne Howard, and Allisha Gray was instrumental, together scoring about 46 points per game. However, Griner’s departure and Brionna Jones’ injury have impacted the team’s dynamic.

Angel Reese has taken a central role in this new lineup, consistently delivering double-doubles. Nevertheless, Reese faces criticism for her performance, attributed partly to her needing further skill development. Her presence is crucial, though her participation remains uncertain for this game.

Match Expectations

The Sparks will find it challenging to contain Gray and Howard in the Dream’s backcourt. Both players secure about 18 points per game, and without defensive pressure from Plum, they are likely to have more shooting opportunities. It wouldn’t be surprising to see each score over 20 points. Current odds for this outcome stand at +188.

The Sparks recently won two consecutive games, adding pressure for an upset against the Dream. However, with the Dream’s recent struggles, winning by 8.5 points could be demanding. Given the fluctuations in scoring predictions, taking the under seems reasonable as point expectations have increased beyond initial projections. The projected final score estimates a Dream win at 89-82.
