A young boy named Kaizer is recovering after being struck by a stray bullet while riding his bicycle outside his Detroit home. The incident took place on Tuesday evening on Lindsay Street, near Trojan Avenue, adjacent to Fargo-Oakfield Park on Detroit’s west side. Despite the shock, Kaizer has been released from the hospital and is expected to recover fully.
Kaizer’s father described the unexpected chaos when gunfire erupted as his son was riding his bicycle near their driveway and sidewalk. Initially, Kaizer thought he was hit by a firework, screaming, ‘A firecracker hit me.’ His father, unknowing what had happened at first, quickly realized the seriousness when he saw blood running down Kaizer’s arm. Acting swiftly, he used his shirt to keep his son calm and rushed him to a nearby hospital.
By Wednesday afternoon, the hospital released Kaizer after treatment. During a news conference held on Tuesday night, Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison explained that the shooter was believed to be a masked teenager. Kaizer was described as an innocent bystander in a senseless act of violence. Detroit police have since taken the teenage suspect into custody on Wednesday afternoon, but investigators are still looking for additional suspects involved in the case.
Police have not provided further details about the suspects or potential charges, as the investigation remains active. Kaizer’s father expressed his disbelief and described his son’s survival as a miracle, stating, ‘I know God was watching over him. I just can’t believe somebody would bring a gun to a park where innocent children are playing.’
