A nonprofit organization, America250, formed by Congress ten years ago, will host an Independence Day concert in Los Angeles on July 4. This event is separate from President Trump’s Freedom 250 celebration.
The concert will feature the Smashing Pumpkins, led by Billy Corgan, and other acts. Chris Stapleton, known for his outlaw country music, is also scheduled to perform. The event will take place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
America250 announced the concert on Monday, positioning itself as a competitor to celebrations favored by President Trump in Washington. His plans for the 250th anniversary of American independence have recently changed numerous times.
Known as America’s Block Party, the Los Angeles concert will be hosted by Queen Latifah and is part of America250’s “Giving 4th” charitable initiative. Tickets are priced at $17.76, aligning with the year of American independence. More performers are expected to join the lineup.
Rosie Rios, who served as a Treasury official during the Obama administration and is currently the chair of America250, stated, “As we celebrate our 250th anniversary, we have an opportunity to bring Americans together around the values that continue to unite us.”
In addition to the Los Angeles event, America250 has organized similar “block party” events in Charleston, S.C., Fort Campbell, Ky., New York, and Milwaukee.
