The Pentagon and FBI have published new records detailing a series of orb sightings in the northeastern United States between October 2024 and June 2025. Among these incidents, two witnesses reported observing a glowing red sphere with a basketball-sized ‘white plasma sun.’
These sightings are part of documents released under the Trump administration’s Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (PURSUE). This initiative aims to declassify files related to unidentified phenomena. One notable sighting, reported in October 2024, involved a ‘plasma-like sphere’ hovering above a pond at a distance of about 2,700 feet. The luminous object changed shape and brightness, sometimes splitting into smaller lights before disappearing after 45 minutes. An iPhone captured video of this event, authenticated by the U.S. government, with the FBI deeming the eyewitness highly credible.
Another sighting occurred in July 2025 in the same region. A witness reported seeing a bright light below the tree line, described as a red sphere containing a bright white center resembling a basketball-sized ‘plasma sun.’ A second witness confirmed seeing the same object, estimated at 30 yards away and 20 to 30 feet above the ground. Both witnesses recorded video footage, later analyzed by the FBI.
Further cases from this region have been published through PURSUE, including a significant unresolved incident in 2023 involving ‘mother orbs’ releasing smaller red objects near a sensitive national security site in the western U.S. This event was witnessed by six federal law enforcement agents. Analysts determined that 40% of the reported activity remains unexplained despite comparing witness accounts with flight logs, radar data, and other information. Army anomaly analysts suggest military flares might explain some sightings, but no single explanation applies to all incidents.
The newly released files include witness narratives, sketches, and maps of related incidents, showing objects like ‘Orbs Launching Orbs,’ a ‘Fiery Orb,’ a ‘Dark Kite,’ and a ‘Translucent Kite.’ These cases are among the most documented unresolved incidents in the latest tranche.
One unusual sighting involved five U.S. Army personnel in February 2022 near Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado. Witnesses saw an object resembling an angular ‘potato’ with constantly changing panels hovering above the mountain. Analysts suggest the sighting might be caused by sunlight reflecting off snowy terrain and illuminating clouds, though this assessment remains low in confidence due to uncertainty in viewing angles and conditions.
Overall, the diverse reports in the Pentagon’s PURSUE program range from potential conventional explanations to unresolved cases. Some transparency advocates appreciate the accessible records, while others criticize the heavy reliance on witness testimony without sufficient technical data.
Government officials clarify that unresolved cases do not prove extraterrestrial life or alien technology. Insufficient information prevents definitive conclusions, and the released records document observations but don’t establish extraterrestrial origins.
