Vegas Golden Knights: Hated Yet Desired

1 week ago 0

The Vegas Golden Knights recently faced disappointment after losing the Stanley Cup. This marked their third appearance in the Final since the team began in 2017. Such rapid success has stirred mixed emotions among NHL fans. Star forward Jack Eichel offered insight into this and provided a fitting response.

In May, a Rotowire poll surveyed all 50 states to determine the most-hated NHL teams. Vegas topped the list in 11 states, the highest for any club. Their swift success plays a part. They’ve clinched the Stanley Cup once, reached the Final thrice, and missed the playoffs only once.

Despite this, their aggressive approach draws criticism. They’re not hesitant to trade players or dismiss coaches. A notable instance was dismissing Bruce Cassidy eight games before the playoffs. They also blocked other teams, like the Edmonton Oilers, from considering him for their coaching staff.

Eichel, traded from Buffalo to Vegas in 2021, weighed in. He highlighted the disconnect between fan perceptions and league player views. “If you ask guys in the league, Vegas isn’t on people’s ‘no-trade’ lists,” Eichel remarked. “This is a place people want to be, where they want to play. The organization represents a lot, and players feel proud to be part of it.”

Vegas’ ability to attract free agents speaks volumes. While Eichel didn’t name names, speculation surrounds his connection to Dylan Larkin from their Team USA days. Larkin, captain of the Red Wings, had reportedly shown interest in the Golden Knights in potential trade scenarios.
