Whole Foods’ Berry Chantilly Cake: A Beloved Favorite

2 hours ago 0

A cake sold at Whole Foods Market, known as the Berry Chantilly Cake, is cherished by many customers. It’s popular for occasions such as birthdays and weddings. Some even enjoy it weekly. According to Whole Foods’ website, this cake “features layers of delicate vanilla cake, fluffy Chantilly cream frosting, and fresh berries.” The cake is so appealing that people have queued up for it during power outages and before natural disasters.

The cake has inspired various iterations over time, including parfaits, a Berry Chantilly Latte, and coffee bars, which went viral in 2025. Whole Foods describes the cake as a “cult favorite.” Social media confirms its widespread appeal. A Reddit thread opened three years ago asked if the Berry Chantilly Cake was worth trying and received enthusiastic reviews. One user shared, “We had this as our wedding cutting cake!” Others chimed in, praising the cake’s flavor and sizes ranging from full cakes to mini cupcakes.

Fans of the cake have been known to line up for it even during adverse situations, according to the company. The Whole Foods website provides the cake’s history. It launched 13 years ago at the Arabella Station store in New Orleans. A bakery team member developed a recipe inspired by her grandmother’s original creation, leading to its rapid success in the South and national distribution.

In 2024, customers expressed their discontent on social media when they suspected changes to the cake’s recipe. Whole Foods responded by aligning the cake’s flavor profile, size, packaging, and price. However, they later announced the reintroduction of the beloved single slices, consistent with the classic version customers enjoy.

Whole Foods has also launched the Next Generation Farmer Fund. This initiative supports farmers under 40 by providing funding and technical assistance for sustainable farming practices. Throughout August, 1% of revenue from Berry Chantilly Cake sales will contribute to this fund.
