The Onion’s Parody of InfoWars Amid Legal Battle

On July 3, 2026, satirical outlet The Onion revealed its parody of the conspiracy platform InfoWars. This release includes a fake video of InfoWars’ founder, Alex Jones, depicted as deceased. The act is part of The Onion’s ongoing effort to take over the media empire.

The Onion’s pursuit to control InfoWars began over a year ago. This followed a legal order for Jones to pay over $1 billion to the families of Sandy Hook victims for his false claims about the shooting being a hoax.

On Thursday, The Onion proceeded with its inaugural parody video without formal acquisition of the platform. In a comedic episode titled “ALEX JONES IS DEAD—Real InfoWars Livestream,” comedian Tim Heidecker impersonates Jones, introducing the fake news to viewers.

“We have leaked video now revealing that Alex Jones uh popped like a balloon in his car two months ago,” Heidecker stated.

He continued by saying, “That’s right folks. Alex Jones uh, the Alex Jones that we have come to know over the years uh is dead.”

The video transitions to footage of a black vehicle. Inside, an unidentifiable person is seen before an explosion occurs. Viewers are cautioned about graphic content and explicit language. Heidecker narrates, “There’s a violent sudden impact from inside the car, essentially the uh body of Alex Jones uh disintegrating instantly and exploding out.”

The real Jones has not publicly reacted to the parody. He remains active, posting episodes of his own show, The Alex Jones Show, on his webpage, Alex Jones Live. Newsweek has reached out to Jones for comment via email outside of regular business hours.
