President Donald Trump mentioned on the ‘Storytime with the Second Lady’ podcast that he could gather former presidents for a reunion at the White House to watch a football game. As Trump looked at a book illustration of a president hosting a Super Bowl party at the White House, he shared the idea with Second Lady Usha Vance.
Trump said, ‘Maybe I should invite Barack Hussein Obama, Joe Biden, with the Bushes—or Bush. Maybe I should invite some of those people to watch a football game together. Wouldn’t that be a nice story? The press would go wild.’ Usha Vance agreed, saying, ‘A president reunion? That would be fun!’
The podcast, featuring Usha Vance—the wife of Vice President JD Vance—interviews various guests as they narrate books to children on YouTube. Interviewees have included figures like race car driver Danica Patrick, Artemis II astronauts, and recently, Trump himself.
Trump narrated a book titled Presidents Play! published by the White House Historical Association, highlighting what past presidents enjoyed in their free time. Instead of reading the book verbatim, Trump added humorous commentary as he flipped through the pages. He noted that President William Howard Taft, illustrated playing baseball, was ‘a large man, very large. And he loved baseball. He’d go to baseball games, loved the hot dogs at the baseball games.’ Trump joked about his own weight, saying, ‘He was our heaviest president, and I have to be careful ’cause I don’t want to supersede his record.’
Trump also showed President Bill Clinton jogging on a White House track built during his presidency. He commented, ‘That’s nice. I didn’t even know that until recently, but he had a track built at the White House.’ Although Trump doesn’t see himself building a track, he mentioned his fondness for Clinton, saying, ‘I like Bill Clinton a lot. I still do.’
Trump’s predecessors, including Republican George W. Bush, Clinton, and Biden, attended the grand opening of President Obama’s center recently, where Trump was notably absent due to past tensions with Obama.
