United States soccer player Folarin Balogun showed excitement after scoring his team’s first goal in the World Cup round of 32. The match took place against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Santa Clara, California, near San Francisco, on Wednesday.
Balogun is eligible to play in the upcoming Round of 16 game against Belgium on Monday. This follows FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee’s decision to suspend Balogun’s one-game red card ban. The red card was issued during the U.S. team’s 2-0 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina, due to an incident where Balogun stepped on Tarik Muharemović’s ankle.
FIFA announced that the match suspension would be suspended for a probationary period of one year. If Balogun repeats a similar infraction during this time, the suspension will be enforced alongside any additional sanctions for the new infraction.
U.S. Soccer issued a statement upon the decision: “We accept the decision of the Disciplinary Committee and are pleased that Folarin Balogun is eligible to compete tomorrow. Our full attention is focused on the Round of 16 match against Belgium in Seattle, and we look forward to the continued support of our amazing fans.”
