Florida Panthers’ star Brady Tkachuk sees this sizeable investment as worthwhile. He discussed the potential value of Carlsson on the ‘Wingmen’ podcast with his brother and teammate, Matthew Tkachuk. Brady argued, “Eighteen million is not an overpay whatsoever.” Matthew concurred, stressing that Carlsson’s capabilities justify the high price tag.

Brady Tkachuk emphasized that Carlsson’s prowess on the ice makes the $18 million a year seem reasonable. He added that as the NHL salary cap increases, this amount might even appear modest compared to future deals expected for rising stars like San Jose’s Macklin Celebrini and Chicago’s Connor Bedard.

The Ducks face a pressing decision with only a limited timeframe to match the Flyers’ offer. Anaheim’s General Manager, Pat Verbeek, likely values Carlsson highly, given the nature of the offer sheet. The main hurdle is finding enough cap space, as recent financial commitments, such as defenseman Pavel Mintyukov’s re-signing, have left the Ducks with roughly $9 million in projected cap space.
