Nevada Lt. Gov. Stavros Anthony has outlined a distinctive strategy to enhance the state’s entertainment sector through space tourism. Anthony hopes to leverage Elon Musk’s presence in Nevada for this venture.
Anthony’s career is diverse. He has nearly thirty years in law enforcement, worked as a regent in higher education, and served on the Las Vegas city council. He ran a competitive mayoral campaign in Las Vegas, and since 2022 he has served alongside Governor Joe Lombardo. Their victory was notable as the sole instance nationally where Republicans overcame incumbent Democratic leadership.
In a recent conversation with Fox News Digital at FreedomFest in Las Vegas, Anthony explored his career path, Nevada’s economic development, and the future gubernatorial race in 2026.
“If you look at 10 years ago, we didn’t have one major sporting activity here in Nevada. They actually would not come here because they thought there would be illegal gambling and corruption and bribery. In 10 years, we’ve become the sports capital of the world. Baseball is coming. We have hockey, football, and we’re going to have basketball coming. F1, NASCAR, women’s basketball, and on and on.”
Anthony emphasizes Nevada’s welcoming environment for the entertainment industry, advocating for minimal regulation and endorsing business ventures in professional sports and new industries like space tourism.
Anthony envisions a vibrant space tourism sector in Nevada, leveraging the state’s expansive lands and engaging with figures like Elon Musk. He believes this could offer an unparalleled experience of viewing the Earth from space.
Reflecting on his lengthy tenure with Las Vegas Metro Police, Anthony attributes his success in politics to the problem-solving skills he honed there. He mentions that contrary to popular portrayals of police work, much of it involves community engagement and improving neighborhood conditions. This experience shapes his approach to governance.
President Trump supports the Lombardo/Anthony administration, particularly endorsing the new policy eliminating taxes on tips, which Anthony believes will resonate positively with voters.
Anthony’s political philosophy draws heavily from the values instilled by his immigrant parents from Cyprus: hard work, self-reliance, and financial responsibility. He stresses that while his role is to support Nevadans, they must strive to achieve the American dream independently.
